As the old man watched the outsider take a fish, he noticed the sun clan seemed to be alert and opted to remain quiet during this whole ordeal, something that worried Max, perhaps the two did know each other? Regardless, all was said and done, hopefully the sun clan didn't mind the outsider being here too much. As the outsider ate, he revealed that he was indeed an outsider, being washed up during a fishing trip, though why he was fishing so close here was unknown, but it was nice to know that the main land was probably close enough. The man then asked for a stick or other stuff to be able to fish, something he could probably get done with enough time, but at the moment he didn't have any spare fishing items. "No, I do not, however if you give me enough time, I could fix you up something that will make fishing easier." Max told the outsider with a sympathetic smile.
"Oh and in case you didn't catch our names, mine is Max Caudwell, pleasure to meet you Wesley." Max would fill him in, intentionally not following it up with the sun clan's name in case he wanted to refrain from giving out his name. "As for clans, there's only two "official" clans, the sun clan and the moon clan, I originally came from the moon clan, but I guess I'm now considered an exile, exiles usually are cast away due to crimes against their clans, most chose to run free in the wild, though few have chosen to live in this place, the ruins." Max would explain to the outsider, hoping the sun clan would get along with the outsider, this outsider should probably go with him after all, someone who can't use magic in the wild all alone on a strange island probably doesn't stand much of a chance.
Though of course, he could always just stay with Max, however he didn't quite have room in his small house and many criminals still dwell in the ruins and often raided the house, despite Max's best efforts to discourage the behavior. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know any magic, would you?" Max would ask the stranger, curious to see if the outside world knew of magic or not, but most importantly to see if the outsider would be capable of living on his own.
From a world elsewhere that he had no knowledge of, Quinn did have a curiosity within him about the man's source, but couldn't do away with the mental nagging of trying to understand such concepts. But for a man that seemed similarly aged to him and stranded in a foreign area, the sun clanner tried putting himself in the other's shoes. It was more apparent that they had a higher hand with the knowledge they held as this lands’ residents.
Offering food was harmless, there was plenty to spare, and Quinn couldn't say that he had control of the resources either. The fishes were not his, but for the older man to give. Information was also shared about their island’s culture, the existence of two sides and the unfortunate divide of them.
And an inquiry, about the stranger's abilities. It was a topic that the boy had not thought about himself, and suddenly took interest in the subject. He knew that his own and other people's blessings were from their deities, the Sun or the Moon, but if this man has not been from their blood…? He was curious to know.
Along the lines of where the individual had sourced from, Quinn piped in his own questions.
“It's still a bit unclear to me how you arrived here… From a boat on the ocean? And what kind of lands is it that you came from?
“Oh! And I'm Quinn. A pleasure to meet you too Wesley.”
The foreigner's eavesdropping had not provided their previously exchanged names, further clarifying that there was no sneaky hostility intended. There was at least that.
Wesley was happy he was getting information on this place and was not going to have to fight for it. He listened to Max's reply after he asked about a fishing spear. "Hm, okay you have my thanks Max." He replied returning the smile. That was one less worry he could focus on exploring, and hunting. He should return the favor, maybe with supplying meat from the animals here. He definitely needed as much information that he could get on this place if he wanted to survive here.
"Okay, there are two clans, then there are the exiles. Got it." Wesley said taking the information to heart. That was something that he had to make sure he did not forget. But then that got him wondering about something else as well as a possible threat if he was going to living out here. "Uh... how is the relationship between the two groups and do either group hunt exiles or does that only happen when they become troublesome as much as I hate to ask." He asked with a unsure look figuring it was a sore topic. "Forgive me if my questions are crossing into... harsh topics." He said, the look changing into a look of regret.
Then the other young man finally spoke, asking the question he had. "Yeah, got washed off the deck ended up here. That is the rough outlining of it, the whole story is not something I really don't want to get into. As for the lands where I came from is a fairly nice place, it holds it's own beauty, the small village I come from is nice if you can deal with the animals causing problems and the labor to get food, and water to survive winter. Sorry I am getting off topic; the lands I come from is a big place, it is ruled by a emperor as well as people that hold the rank of nobility. But it has been at war for quite some time. It has been bad enough for them to force them to conscript people for their war." Wesley explained, trying to answer he young man's question. "It is nice to meet you as well Quinn. Hope the both of you can forgive me for my eavesdropping."
He did not know much past that, he kept the part that he was a conscript out of the conversation. He tried to think if he missed anything else until Max's next question snapped him out of it. "Ah, no. Never had the chance to see if I had any capability for magic. The war kind of made it hard to find out."
Max simply nodded at the outsider's thanks, it wasn't anything too major, Max could easily find some scrap that would be suitable enough for at least a spear, though he hoped to design a trident for the outsider, Max found them to be more easier to hit fish with. The outsider's question about the two clans' relationship took him a bit by surprise, he didn't expect it so soon, but it was bound to happen so Max simply sighed. "The sun clan and moon clan were once at peace, but that peace was long gone, I'm not even sure why they fight anymore..." Max would inform the outsider, a hint of sorrow in his voice. "As for the exiles, many still feel anger, rather it be toward their home or the other clan, some act on that anger, they do not last long." Max would explain, his voice filling with regret. "Then there's those who are... Just... Broken... They're not all there mentally, some are hunted because they pose a danger to everyone, others are just left to their insane disillusions." Max would finish explaining, letting a sigh once more. Talking of this war and madness was truly depressing to the old man, a far cry from what this place used to be, he often wondered if the ancestors would be pleased with the sights before them today. The outsider then apologized about the topic, something Max just waved off, no use crying over the past.
The sun clan finally chimed in, asking a bit more about the outsider after introducing themselves, to which the outsider revealed more of the outside lands, some sorta empire was present near by, this caused Max to wonder if the empire would attempt to conquer the island eventually, perhaps that will be enough to bind the clans back together once more, though it would seem that the outsiders were fighting among themselves as well, something Max found odd. The outsider apologized for eavesdropping, causing Max to chuckle. "Do all you outsider apologize so often?" He would joke, a small smile formed on his face, he attempted to lighten the mood, no point in feeling sorry about things they cannot change, at least not yet.
For a small second, there was silence, Max was still wondering about the outside world, what their war was about and why were they forcibly recruiting people? More importantly who qualifies to join the war? Could they all use magic out there? The outside world was something that Max was always curious about but the news of it not being any better than here was a bit discouraging to him. Regaining his hold, Max asked the stranger about his magic if he had any, snapping him out of his trance. The outsider then revealed he had no magic, though he didn't try to find out, that seemed to imply he knew of magic before but didn't try to use it, that answer was quite interesting, perhaps one day the outsider would be capable of using magic. Max figured if the outsider chose to stay in the mysterious cave, he would have to try and teach the outsider magic or at the very least how to hunt and properly defend himself.
Max had some experience in dodging attacks, particularly magic attacks, he often had to avoid long range attacks, his massive figure and heavy armor wasn't exactly welcoming to close range combat, though he still needed to make the repairs to the old armor set, it's been quite a long time since he last wore the armor, it must've had some vines calling it home by now. "No magic huh? How are you with weapons?" Max didn't really think he could teach someone to use magic, but if the sun clan had a clue, he'd be more than happy to hear it, but for now, he was going have to try and teach the outsider to fight the old fashion way. Assuming of course the outsider would like to learn.
